Circulation Policies

The DBU Library offers a wide variety of services and resources for both you and your students.  As a faculty member, you have certain privileges not available to the rest of the DBU community.

  • Longer checkout periods - see Checkout Periods tab
  • Larger limits for number of books allowed: full-time faculty - unlimited; adjunct faculty - 60
  • Proxy patrons to handle routine library tasks
  • Recall power when items are urgently needed for instruction or research - see Recalls tab above

DBU faculty members have access to more items, for longer periods, than other users.

Item Type Checkout Period
Books 1 semester
Videos/DVDs 14 days
Audio Tapes 14 days
CDs 14 days
Reference items 8 days
Periodicals 3 days
Reserve items same as students; see Course Reserves

Faculty members may request a recall of a checked-out item if it is urgently needed for instructional purposes. For example, if you need to place an item on reserve, you may request a recall. The Library will contact the person holding the item and ask that it be returned within 3 days.

To request a recall, you must contact the Circulation Supervisor at lib_circ@dbu.edu or 214-333-5320. Please use the recall privilege sparingly.

  • No fines are imposed for overdue circulating Library materials checked out by faculty. Please be responsible and return materials on time so that others may use them.
  • Overdue items will result in a BLOCK placed on the faculty member's Library account. Library privileges, such as Interlibrary Loan and checkout, will be suspended until the item is returned or the replacement fee is paid.
  • After 30 days, an overdue item is considered LOST.
  • A standard replacement charge of $50 will be assessed for each lost item.
  • If a lost item is found and returned, the replacement fee will be refunded.
  • A replacement copy may be accepted in lieu of the replacement fee, with prior approval from the Library Director.
  • The person whose Library account is used to check out the material is responsible for the fees described above.
  • Damaged items may also generate a replacement fee. The damaged item will remain the property of the Library.
